Presented in the genre of the total installation, this archive exhibition explores questions of authorship, the role of the algorithm in art, and the vulnerability and frailty of technology in contrast to the everyday fullness of life.

The project was inspired by a poem by Jack Kerouac from the Northport Haikus. Legend has it that the cycle was written overnight, not by the poet, but by a group of friends, using an algorithm suggested by Kerouac. So what is authorship? Maybe it’s just technology, and to be an author means to be a medium for capturing impressions.

Evgenia turns to various technologies of text production, from experimental calligraphy and typing to the genetics of neural networks (Verse by Verse from Google). Sergey Komarov’s Cyland Audio Archive (CAA) recordings are made according to the author’s method of analog sound recording on plexiglass. The installation elements are rhizomatically interwoven and invite the viewer to assume the role of the author through immersion in the space.
