There is no water on the Moon, but there are seas.
Moon seas look like dark patches on the surface of the lunar disk. They were named during the Age of Exploration.
The Moon Seas series is about how important it is for humans to name everything. We even give names to things that are unattainable and unthinkable to us. In what appears to us, we recognize what we have already seen.
Ink on silk. There only were patches until the stitch lines appeared on the fabric’s surface. Then the patches ceased to be patched, and the lines ceased to be lined. The lines became a cartographic grid, and the patches became geological formations. All that remained was to name and measure them to give them life.
