The project’s title is inspired by one of the artist’s works, "Landscape with Polyphemus," from the "Landscapes. White Nights" series, which explores the eroticism of the universe.
Polyphemus, the mythological cyclops and embodiment of nature’s untamed forces, is enamored with the nymph Galatea, dreaming of her in melodies played on his flute. The large-scale canvas draws a parallel between the viewer and the hero contemplating this sensual love.
The centerpiece of the project is the 14-meter canvas Landscape with Polyphemus. It establishes a connection between the audience and Polyphemus as a witness to tender passion. Eschewing literal textual illustration, Evgenia Tut creates a new dimension of space and time, shaped by the interplay of black and white, fullness and emptiness, earth and sky, masculinity and femininity.
The exhibition’s atmosphere is further enriched by a soundscape created specifically for the project by media artist Alexander Pogrebnyak.
